People are your greatest asset. Their wellbeing (physical and mental) directly impacts your business. Finding training that is actionable, results-oriented, and offers valuable ROI can be challenging. As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and a business consultant who has worked with hundreds of companies to support their growth, I bring both business acumen and the psychology of human behaviour to workplace training.
Workshops support implementation and adherence to industry best practices and tenets of National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health & Safety (PH&S) in the Workplace.
My approach is founded on evidence-based research. I believe that knowledge is power and to change behaviour we need to understand the underlying neurological, physiological, and biological mechanisms. Workshops offer both a foundation of understanding, take-away resources, and actionable tools.
We can no longer think of illnesses of the body and mind as separate. An extensive body of research has shown they are interconnected. Now more than ever, mental health and wellness are foundational to employee engagement, performance, and satisfaction. Supporting wellbeing prevents both absenteeism and improves presenteeism in the workplace.
  • 30% of short and long term disability claims are the result of mental health issues
  • 80% of Canadian employers report mental health as the top reason for employee absence

Workshop Offerings

Food and Mental Health

Our diets and the foods we consume directly impact our mood, cognition, mental health, and resilience to stress. However, our relationship to food is complex and we continue to be flooded with conflicting food messaging oftentimes with little scientific backing. The role food plays in mental health is rarely discussed yet is significant to overall wellbeing, functioning, and health. Poor diet has been linked to depression, anxiety, ADHD, dementia, and other mental health disorders.
We make decisions about the food we eat every day, at least 3 times a day. There is a significant domino effect to the food choices we make. This workshop is not about shaming eating habits, but about bringing awareness and understanding so we can make informed choices.
Based on scientific data and research, the workshop aims to provide an understanding of how food affects mental health and the simple changes that can be made to improve mood and optimize performance.

Changing Habits Through Neuroscience

Changing habits requires more than a to-do list or a set of SMART goals. Although these are effective tools, they can be challenging to sustain when our brains are not wired for these changes. As a result, we might engage in habits that are either contrary or not aligned with our ultimate goals.  This will workshop will provide information on how to stop falling victim to faulty brain circuitry and deceptive brain messages by rewiring the brain through the principles of neuroplasticity.
Change unhelpful habits and replace them with desired behaviours.
Based on scientific research and evidence-based practices in neuroscience, the workshop provides a four-step method based on the research of Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz for changing habits and achieving change. The principles and strategies shared in the workshop can be applied to personal and professional goals.
Workshop Outcome:

CBT for Self-Care – Introduction to applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is often referred to as the Gold standard intervention for many mental health disorders. This extensively researched and supported therapy is based on the principle that our thoughts, behaviours, and feelings work in tandem and that one drives the other. In other words, our emotions are a result of our thoughts and beliefs. Therefore, by changing our perceptions, thoughts, and actions we can change how we feel. This workshop is an introduction to the principles and practices of CBT that can be applied to improving how we feel and respond to others.
